Is WordPress actually free?
The software itself is completely free and always has been. What you pay for is hosting, which is the space your site lives in, and a domain name, which is your web address. Most hosting plans include the domain free for the first year. There is no licence fee and no version of WordPress you have to buy.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. I have built entire sites without writing a line of code, and none of the guides here require any. You install WordPress with a few clicks, pick a theme, and edit pages visually. Coding becomes useful much later, if you ever want something unusual.
How long does it take to get a site online?
Installing WordPress takes about five minutes. Getting a theme installed and looking presentable takes another hour or two. Having a site you are genuinely happy with takes a weekend. Anyone promising a finished professional website in ten minutes is selling something.
Should I use WordPress.com or WordPress.org?
Almost certainly WordPress.org, the self hosted version, which is what every guide here covers. It gives you full ownership, any theme or plugin you want, and the freedom to move hosts later. The full comparison is in our WordPress.com vs WordPress.org guide.
Do you get paid to recommend these tools?

Can I move my site later if I pick the wrong host?
Yes, and most decent hosts will move it for you free. This is the main reason to choose real WordPress over a website builder. A WordPress site is portable. A site built in a proprietary builder usually has to be rebuilt from scratch if you ever leave.
Will my WordPress site make money?
Maybe, eventually, with consistent work. I will not give you a timeline, because anyone who does is guessing. What I can tell you is that traffic comes before income, and that most sites which earn well took a year or more of steady publishing before anything meaningful happened.
